Who is hormone replacement therapy for?

Hormone replacement therapy, also called menopausal hormone therapy, replaces the estrogen (and, for women with a uterus, the progesterone) that falls during perimenopause and after menopause. For most healthy women who start within ten years of menopause or before age 60, the benefits outweigh the risks; that has been the position of The Menopause Society since its 2022 Hormone Therapy Position Statement, which calls hormone therapy the most effective treatment for hot flashes and night sweats and notes that it prevents bone loss and fracture.

Nevada has close to a million women between 19 and 64, and about one in five of them is between 55 and 64, according to KFF estimates from the 2024 American Community Survey. Getting those women in front of a clinician who is trained in menopause is the hard part. Nevada ranks 45th among states for active physicians, with roughly 218 physicians per 100,000 residents against a national average of 272, according to Association of American Medical Colleges data cited by UNLV. Telehealth is how Amsara closes that distance for women in Reno, Elko, Pahrump, and the Las Vegas valley alike.

At Amsara we see women in Nevada who are waking at 3 a.m., losing their words in meetings, gaining weight their habits do not explain, or being told their labs are “normal” while they feel anything but. We also see women who were started on hormones elsewhere and never had the dose, the route, or the follow-up revisited, and women who cannot take estrogen and need the non-hormonal options explained properly. If you are over 35 and your periods, sleep, mood, or energy have changed, you are the right age to talk to us. Our care for women page covers the full picture, and our guide to HRT by telehealth explains how online hormone care works wherever you live.

What does Amsara prescribe for HRT in Nevada?

  • Transdermal estradiol (patch, gel, or spray), often preferred because it bypasses the liver and, in observational data, carries a lower clot risk than oral estrogen.
  • Oral estradiol tablets for women without clot or migraine risk factors.
  • Micronized progesterone, required for any woman with a uterus taking systemic estrogen; taken at bedtime, it often helps sleep.
  • Combination products such as estradiol plus progesterone in one capsule, or combination patches.
  • Low-dose vaginal estrogen (cream, tablet, insert, or ring) for dryness, painful sex, and recurrent urinary infections.
  • Non-hormonal options, Veozah (fezolinetant) and Lynkuet (elinzanetant), for women who cannot or prefer not to take estrogen. See HRT or non-hormonal?.
  • Testosterone for women, as a gel, when low libido persists on well-managed estrogen, and testosterone replacement therapy for men after labs confirm low testosterone. Testosterone prescribing for Nevada patients begins shortly; the evaluation, labs, and plan that come first are available now. See our care for men.

We prescribe FDA-approved medications first. When appropriate, we also prescribe compounded medications from licensed 503A and 503B pharmacies. We do not prescribe research-grade peptides. Our guide to bioidentical, compounded, and FDA-approved HRT explains what telehealth clinics can legally prescribe and why we choose what we choose.

Is HRT safe? What changed in 2025 and 2026

On November 10, 2025, HHS and the FDA announced the removal of the boxed warnings about cardiovascular disease, breast cancer, and probable dementia from menopausal hormone therapy labels, warnings that had rested largely on the 2002 Women’s Health Initiative, whose participants averaged 63 years old (HHS press release). On February 12, 2026, the FDA approved the first revised labels across all four categories of hormone therapy. Warnings about blood clots, stroke, and endometrial cancer with unopposed estrogen remain, as they should.

Hormone therapy is still not for everyone. For women, current contraindications include a history of breast cancer or another estrogen-sensitive cancer, a prior blood clot or stroke, coronary artery disease, active liver disease, and unexplained vaginal bleeding. A careful history during your telehealth intake is how these are caught, and it is why every Amsara prescription begins with a visit. Our Journal covers the evidence in plain language in Is HRT safe? What the research actually says.

Hormone therapy for men in Nevada: what you can start today

Men are treated at Amsara too. Testosterone declines gradually with age, and when symptoms such as low energy, low libido, loss of muscle, poor sleep, or low mood line up with low testosterone on two morning labs, testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) is the treatment most men are asking about. In Nevada, the work that comes before a prescription is available now: a 60-minute video consultation, baseline labs (total and free testosterone, SHBG, LH and FSH, estradiol, a blood count, PSA, lipids, A1c, and thyroid), and a conversation about fertility, because testosterone itself suppresses sperm production and men who want to preserve fertility are offered alternatives such as clomiphene, enclomiphene, or hCG when appropriate.

Testosterone prescribing for Nevada patients begins shortly. Men who complete their consultation and labs now will have a plan ready the moment it opens, with no second wait. Start with our care for men page or book your discovery call.

How does HRT by telehealth work in Nevada?

  1. Start with a conversation. Book a free 15-minute discovery call if you have questions, or schedule your initial visit directly.
  2. Complete a secure intake in the Amsara Patient Portal: history, symptoms, current medications, and consents. Nevada law (NRS 629.515) allows a licensed provider to establish care with you through telehealth when it is clinically appropriate, so your care begins with a video visit.
  3. Your initial visit is a 60-minute video consultation with your provider: your story, your goals, and your risk factors, unhurried.
  4. Labs near you. Orders go to a Quest Diagnostics patient service center in Las Vegas, Henderson, Reno, and across Nevada; many baseline labs are covered by insurance, and advanced testing is priced transparently on our Tests and Services page.
  5. A written plan and prescriptions sent to the Nevada pharmacy of your choice, with dose, route, and what to expect in the first weeks. How long does HRT take to work? answers the most common question.
  6. Follow-up at six to eight weeks to adjust, then as needed. Members message their provider between visits through the portal.

How much does HRT cost in Nevada?

Individual visits with no membership: initial 60-minute visit $275, follow-up $175, prescription renewal service $15 (the medication itself is billed by your pharmacy). Annual membership is $1,699 at launch pricing (regularly $1,999) and includes initial and follow-up visits, free prescription renewals, priority booking, provider messaging, and 20% off non-insurable testing. Generic estradiol patches run about $20 to $30 a month with a discount card and generic micronized progesterone about $15 to $50 a month, so for most women the medication is the smallest line on the bill. We do not bill insurance; we provide superbills, and visits, labs, and prescriptions may qualify for HSA or FSA reimbursement. Full detail is on our Pricing page.

Frequently asked questions about HRT in Nevada

Can hormone replacement therapy be prescribed online in Nevada?

Yes. Nevada law (NRS 629.515) allows a provider licensed in Nevada to establish care with a patient through telehealth when it is clinically appropriate, and menopausal hormone therapy can be evaluated, prescribed, and managed by video visit. Prescriptions are sent to the Nevada pharmacy of your choice.

Do I need labs before starting HRT?

A diagnosis of perimenopause or menopause is clinical, based on your age, symptoms, and history. Baseline labs are still useful to rule out thyroid and other causes and to set a safety baseline, and they are drawn at a Quest Diagnostics location near you in Las Vegas, Henderson, Reno, or elsewhere in Nevada. Your provider orders only what changes your plan.

Does Amsara Health take insurance for HRT?

No. Amsara is a direct-pay concierge practice. Visit and membership prices are published, we provide superbills on request, and many prescriptions and routine labs are covered by your insurance at the pharmacy or lab. Visits, labs, and prescriptions may qualify for HSA or FSA reimbursement.

Your provider will walk through what fits your history.
